A poem is a promise;
to be spare, to be concise,
to be kind.
To observe without judgement,
but with a hard eye for sure.
Not a great way to make a living,
“rich poet” is a favorite oxymoron.
The “Truth” is very fluid these days,
“Gist” is a better word for
getting to the bottom of things.
Interesting that the root of it
is the Latin word for ‘rest’.
