June

June is like that much beloved relative adored in youth,
but gone away.
Only to return for a visit much later.
An aunt, an uncle, a grandparent
who was kind, warmhearted, and so much fun.
But on arrival they say they can only stay for a short time.
Much jollity ensues.
Until suddenly they are gone.
June, we wait for it; for its crazy explosion of green,
the long warm days,
so fleeting, so short, and so friendly.
