Patience

Patience holds hands with expectation.
Without expectation, patience would not
be necessary.
We cultivate equanimity
because almost nothing happens
the way we want it to.
Sigh

Knowing this, we can be calm and cheerful
when our young one is learning to eat, or
the dog is struggling with the connection
between behavior and reward.

But abiding well takes special effort.
Kindness is not usually our first response.
