Regret

Perhaps regret is a kind of grief,
things done that cannot be undone.
Words said that cannot be unsaid.
A special type of loss,
the loss of opportunity to make things right.

We make mistakes,
often unaware of what is driving us to do these things:
thoughtless and driven at the same time.
That is our universal flaw—
doing without knowing,
saying without thinking.

The Three Gates of Pause before speaking;
Is it true?
Is it kind?
Will it be helpful?
AH . . . that there will always be space in life for these questions.
