Is there a difference between a
rock and a stone?
Both hard, round or not,
Igneous, sedimentary, volcanic.
Maine sits on ledge,
rocks are everywhere,
some tiny pebbles, others
the size of a house.
We are surrounded by hardness.
Thoreau, ever the dreamer, called it
“A wild place with no mercy to it.”
Is there no softness anywhere?
A doe and two fawns emerge from
the early morning silver mist,
Without a sound.
