Waiting is hard because
it is about somebody or something
else doing on their terms,
not ours.
The bank teller chatting up the customer with the complicated deposit,
that takes forever.
The grocery store customer checking out ahead of you,
who wants some cash, some credit, and writes a check, but
in the middle drops their wallet on the floor and credit cards fly everywhere.
We wait.
Trying to maintain good cheer rather than rage at the incompetence of the world.
And then we realize that each moment is the same,
all just rolling along without our permission.
