Shoes

Shoes connect us to the ground.
Most people in the world wear them.
But such variety:
Leather, wood, plastic, rubber.
Savagely stylish, hopelessly clunky.
And the names:
Stilettos for thousands of dollars,
Torture for the feet.
Loafers for lazy people, moccasins for the stealthy.
Socks or no socks?
Saddle shoes, huh?
Wing tips, whatever that means,
Pumps, really?
And lastly and certainly leastly—
Flip flops, worn by girls in the grocery store in February
in Maine.
Let’s not get started on shoes with flashing lights that play music
When you walk.
